The Southern Cone is a geographical and cultural subregion of South America that encompass the southernmost areas of the continent. It is structured by a long mountain range, whose high peaks divide the waters that flow toward the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. This geographical border, shaped by millions of years of planetary activity and only a few centuries of colonial history, marks today the political division of the territory into Chile and Argentina. The massive Andes Mountains, which separate these contemporary nations, are actually the vital cord that has tied together the austral continent, its rivers, landscapes, and cultures.
Cono Sur is a mobile composed of a series of compasses hanging from the ceiling. The structure -made of tension cables, magnets, a compass counterweight, and eight metal arrows- is calibrated to point toward the Austral Pole. Their tips constantly oscillate, triggering a dance that finds balance in infinite ways of pointing south./
