Between mineral peaks reaching toward the sky, one of the largest astronomical observatories on Earth rests at over 5,000 meters above sea level on the Chajnantor Plateau. Designed to receive electromagnetic waves drifting through space, A.L.M.A. (the Atacama Large Millimeter Array) brings the universe closer from one of the clearest, thinnest skies on the planet.
At this altitude, the atmosphere becomes almost transparent. The sky is so thin that the Earth dissolves into the universe.
“Alma” in Spanish also means soul.
And perhaps that is where science and cosmology meet: the soul does not merely look at the sky from below; it participates in it. Across both the Andean worldview and the astronomical community, the human being appears as a node within a vast living architecture, where stars, mountains, rivers, ancestors, and even the laws of physics share the same cosmic drive./
